February 14 Biscayne Bay

The ICW winds its way eastward up the north side of the Keys eventually changing direction to follow the eastern coast of Florida to head north. Some areas of the ICW are very remote and some are developed. Water depth is pretty skinny everywhere, but the GPS charts are pretty accurate. In several places we traveled with 4' of water under us. When we traveled with 6' of water we somewhat relaxed and at 8' we began to take our eye off of the depthsounder and enjoy the scenery. We traveled through many bays or sounds such as Barnes Sound, Card Sound etc. These bodies of water were lengthy and some of them wide with few markers in between, but the autopilot and the gps faithfully led us to the next marker spot on. It was a long travel day but we eventually ended up at the north end of Biscayne Bay. Miami was a few miles in the distance. We chose an anchorage that was protected from the wind, which was in sight of Miami, Key Biscayne and Miami Beach. What a fantastic view from the water. Sausage and saurkraut and mashed potato's made a great evening meal.
