May 25 Pungo River Anchorage Belhaven NC mm 127

Today Sunday we watched the Indianapolis 500 at anchor and for being in the middle of nowhere we have an excellent over the air TV signal. At 4:30 pm we pull anchor and mosey up the Pungo River another 13 miles past Belhaven and stop near Leechville (neither may be on the map). This time we are accompanied by about a half dozen sailboats and another trawler. Quiet night at anchor. A small boat approaches and we assume its another fisherman trying to make a few bucks, but as the boat gets closer firearms and official looking uniforms become clear. "may we see your registration papers?"-no problem sir-In a few minutes they (NC Conservation Officers) were on their way and said "have a safe trip". Judy was fixing dinner and invited them to stay but they declined and said they had to work awhile longer! Mile markers along the ICW are rare except in North Carolina where there is Mile Marker in the water every 5 miles
