Black Point Settlement April 22-24 2011

Black Point Settlement is just 5 miles south of Staniel Cay.    We cast off the dock, dodging a huge megyacht that is parked behind us.  The anchorage at Blackpoint is in a bay that is protected from the easterly winds we are experiencing.  It is a beautiful anchorage.  It is Good Friday afternoon so nothing will be open in town.  On Saturday we launch the dinghy and travel a short distance to town,  We wanted breakfast so we stopped at Lorraine's cafe.  No one around but the place is wide open.  We finally round up a neighbor.  Oh Lorraine is getting her hair done as her brother in law is getting married on the beach today!  The next place we stopped, the owner said she could get us something quick but she was getting ready for "the wedding".  During the course of breakfast we were also invited to the wedding at 2pm.  Apparently the whole town will be there so nothing will be open.  At 1:45 we get in the dinghy headed for the beach.  It is a lot farther around to the beach than we think.  No way we will be there by 2pm.  Judy says not to worry it is the Bahamas and it won't start until 4pm.  She was almost right.  It didn't start until 3:30.  Anyway it was quit colorful.  Chairs in the sand. A makeshift tent and a small real for sure tent.  Half of the town was seated.  The other half stood under the shade trees.
The wedding on the beach,  The groomsmen's shirts matched the bridesmaids dress

One of the reasons for stopping here was to attend church on Easter Sunday.  We pick out the Baptist church in the center of town.  Sign says 10:30 am.  We arrive at 10:15 to beat the C&E crowd.  No one there.  It is apparent that nothing is going to be happening soon, so we wander up the hill to the Missionary Church.  This is the place.  Barb meets the pastor and he said Church will start shortly.  It did and it lasted until 1pm.  We sang a lot and heard a special preacher from Nassau.  The church is small so a sound system was not needed, but that didn't matter, they had one and it was turned up full blast

Shew...finally cought up! Sounds like you are having a lot of fun cruising the Bahamas. I remember attending church services when we were there several years ago. It too was a very small church, and they made the rafters shake...
