April 25-26 Big Majors Spot and the Swimming Pigs

A pig swimming to the dinghy for a handout

Pigs on the beach at Big Majors Spot
It is a short jaunt of 8 miles from Black Point to Big Majors Spot.  Big Majors is a nice protected anchorage in the prevailing easterly winds we have been experiencing.  We will be here 2 nights for dinghy exploration and to see the swimming pigs.  I thought sure the pigs would be up early and would be looking for breakfast ( we saved some garbage for them).  So about 8:30am,  we dinghied over to to the beach where they hang out in the scrub brush.  Normally they hear the dinghy and swim out to you for a handout.  No response to our dinghy and as we walked the beach I used my best hog calling voice (soooo sooo) I learned on my Grandfathers farm.  No response, but about 10:30 am I looked out and the pigs were on the beach.  This time they came swimming out to the dinghy.  They are fast swimmers and they are able to keep their head above water as they chow down on leftovers
Anchorage at Big Majors Spot which is near Staniel Cay
We knew our friends Rita & Robert from Marsh Harbour were cruising in the area.  They have been a step behind us in our travels.  They were at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club so Judy and I hopped in our dinghy and had a delightful 8am breakfast with them on their boat.
