April 27-28 Highbourne Cay

The internet in the Exumas mostly comes via satellite.  You purchase an internet card for $10 and it is good for 24hrs or 100mb (sometimes 200) whichever comes first.  We have turned off Windows update and all those other things that eat up the megabytes.  Skype is not prohibited or blocked but you are strongly discouraged from using it as it chews up bandwith.

Only 9 miles to Highbourne Cay Marina.  We were here a short while ago.  $44 per night for electric. Ouch! It is not metered so use as much as you can.  Not a good deal for us.  Most marinas in the Bahamas meter their electric at 40 to 65c per Killowatt hour.  When it is metered, even with the AC running we only use around $15 per night.
We met Glenn & Susie Patch at Highbourne.  They are members of the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht club at Boat Harbour in the Abacos.  Glenn & Susie on the right
This is a light news day.  It is just an overnight stop so I will tell a Staniel Cay story.  At Staniel Cay we heard that there was  some James Bond memorabilia from the movie Thunderball at the the library.  The Library is in a little Yellow building, but the door is padlocked.  An inquiry at the nearby Bakery said to call "Moonglow" on the VHF radio. We did and shortly a very nice lady came rolling up in her golf cart.  She opened up all the doors and windows as there is no electric in the building. She said she was going to leave the Library open for the weekend and we didn't need to close up when we left.  No Thunderball artifacts but we did peruse the many books.  There was a donation jar and we added a few dollars to it.  It wasn't under lock and key and the building was left wide open! "Moonglow" is Joann Mann as we later found out she is the local artist in residence and is very prominent on the island
