A settled weather pattern is predicted for the next few days with light winds. Time to get away from the dock and take a side trip. Three boats got together for this trip. Our Time as well as Xplorer with Mike and Cathy Cahill. Neither had been to Great Guyana Cay ( the site of the Barefoot Man Concert). We pulled away from the dock about 10am and arrived at Earl's Dock on Guyana Cay about 12:30 pm. Only about 15 sm but we took our time getting there. In spite of the prediction of light & variable winds, the wind blew hard enough to produce some whitecaps on the Sea of Abaco. Earl's Dock-no amenities such as electric or water but Earl is there to help you dock and collect $20 for overnight docking. Docks are good but not floating docks. Off to Nipper's for lunch. If you recall Nipper's sit on a hill that overlooks the Atlantic. After lunch we donned our snorkel gear to snorkel around the reefs just offshore. Not a lot of scenery beneath the water, There were better reefs farther off shore, but the wind shifted direction and some rollers coming off the Atlantic made it difficult to get to them. After snorkeling we spent some time around the pool at Nippers. Then off to Our Time for cocktails before we ate dinner (Italian Night) at Grabbers which over looks Fishers Bay in the Sea of Abaco. Great weather, great company, and great scenery all day long. Overnight the wind died down to almost dead calm and so we decided to go to Tahiti Beach which is at the tip of Elbow Cay to anchor overnight. Tahiti beach is a beautiful strip of white sand that is completely exposed at low tide. Off we went, arriving shortly after lunch. The trip over to Tahiti Beach was fantastic. Not a ripple on the water, so we saw every detail on the bottom and even some fish. Water depth varied from 6' to 20'. Our anchor drug a little as we tried to set it in about 7' of water, but it wasn't long until it grabbed ahold in the hard sand bottom. I lowered the dinghy and set out to inspect the anchor. You could clearly follow the chain to the anchor and I gave it a final inspection looking through the glass bottom bucket. All was well. Xplorer had a hard time getting his anchor to hold. Finally thought he had it set, but after peering at the anchor through the bucket, it appeared to be on its side and not holding much, so one more attempt and then it dug in properly. Cracker P's on Lubbers Quarters is a very good restaurant less than a half mile away, so off we go in our dinghys for lunch. Cathy of Xplorer is a very good photographer so I am looking forward to getting some of her pictures. I always forget my camera at the most opportune times. After a great lunch we were off to explore Tahiti Beach where we beached our dinghies. That night we had dinner on the grill and slept soundly. Xplorer headed back to port as they had company coming the next day.
