March 15-16 White Sound & Marsh Harbour

Today, Saturday, our plan is to take the dinghy to White Sound on Elbow Cay and go to Sea Spray Marina, rent a golf cart, travel north, view the island and end up in Hopetown. Plan successfully executed and even more delightful than we imagined. We left the boat at anchor swinging in a light southerly breeze and headed for Sea Spray by dinghy about 2 miles away. Golf cart rental was reasonable-$50 per day. Eating is usually the first order of business so after about a 25 minute golf cart ride (by the way they drive on the LH side in the Bahamas) we arrived in Hopetown. The journey to Hopetown took us over a road that overlooked the Atlantic as well as the Sea of Abaco in addition to the interior of Elbow Cay. There are a few cars on Elbow Cay but mostly golf carts, and besides you can only go so far until no vehicles or golf carts are allowed and from there on it is strictly walking. Pictured above is the crew walking ahead of me on the narrow streets of Hopetown. Many neat shops. First was lunch at the Harbor View restaurant. As the name implies, the restaurant overlooks the Hopetown Harbor as well as the Hopetown Light House which we had previously toured. The local museum was small but contained lots of history about the founding of the island and its ancestors. Back to Sea Spray with the golf cart about 4pm and a return to the boat by dinghy and then a peaceful and short ride (4 miles) back to Boat Harbour. Most boaters back at the Harbour were on there way to a charity auction which was being held at the marina. Judy and I got cleaned up and got there in time to grab a bite to eat but most things we didn't need or couldn't carry home. Very warm today and not much wind tonight so sleeping was borderline hot on the boat tonight.
Today Palm Sunday we were off to church on the bus again. Before Mass started the priest asked all to come outside so we could have a nice procession into the church. Father took that opportunity to read the gospel and give a short sermon. We then had a singing procession into the church. Palms were given out and they were very nicely braided. Mass which started at 9am, including the reading of the passion, lasted until almost 11 am which again is prolonged by the lengthy process during the sign of the peace. All in all quite colorful, very religious, and a very enjoyable experience. The rest of the day was spent doing a little boat cleaning, Big Ten tournament watching, cocktails with our Time and My Cin and then some Mahi Mahi on the grill
