April 22 Vero Beach FL

The scenery on our trip from Stuart to Vero Beach changes dramatically as we head north. The ICW follows the course of the Indian River and the River widens significantly as we head north. The ICW is still rather narrow with shallow water on both sides but the scenery changes dramatically from one opulent home after another to almost desperate wilderness with a magnificent home perched every now and then on the River, overlooking a relatively vast expanse of the waterway. The trip of some 50 miles was uneventful under mostly sunny skies, windy and the temperature in the upper seventies. Vero Beach Municipal Marina is a little dated but the facilities are nice and the staff is very helpful. The stores are a bus ride away for grocery restocking, so we decided to stay on the boat, have hamburgers on the Jenn Air and get ready for an early departure in the morning The picture is from the flybridge of the adjacent mooring field.
