May 17 Upper Broad Creek Anchorage Neuse River

Our next journey will take us to New Bern NC. In order to get there we depart from the ICW at mm 190 after a journey through Adams Creek. At the junction of Adams Creek and the Neuse River, we turn left and head upriver some 20 miles towards New Bern NC. We have heard lots of good things about New Bern and besides we also have some friends from Decatur that live there, Mark & Sue Young, as well as my cousin Abbey the daughter of cousin Mona Jean and Ken. Tonight we will stop short of New Bern and anchor in a Creek off of the River. The trip up the Neuse was fantastic. The River is very wide, the sun was shining, the water placid, and many sailboats were lazily enjoying the nearly windless day. Arrival time at our anchorage, which was about a mile off the River, was 4:30 p.m. After enjoying a meal of ham & beans, the wind picked up very briskly and came right down the creek creating some Lake Erie type 1-2' waves. We picked up the anchor and moved around a bend in the Creek to give us a break from the wave action. About 11pm the wind died and we had a peaceful night on the hook. sm traveled 5228
