May 5-6 Shelter Cove Marina Hilton Head Island SC
Due to the high tides in the area most of the marinas have floating docks. The docks float up and down on wooden or cement poles and thus you don't have to worry about tying up your boat and allowing for the rise and fall of the tides. A pretty dramatic indication of the difference in tidal range is shown in the two pictures above. Judy is standing on the dock at low tide(bottom picture) and by the same pole six hours later at near high tide. Shelter Cove marina on Hilton Head is some five miles off of the ICW but Judy and I stayed here in a condo 2 years ago and we think this is a pretty neat marina and a special place. It is encircled by very good restaurants, condos, retail shops, the Ocean a short distance away all surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Not too many loopers stop here as it is off the beaten path but well worth the extra distance to come here. Not enough time to eat at all the restaurants but we remember the good ones from the last time we were here
