January 6-13 Marsh Harbour Bahamas

After arriving back at the boat it didn't take us long to appreciate the warm weather. All systems were fine on the boat. The next night, Tuesday, we were invited to a party at one of the Yacht Club member's winter home. Doug has a beautiful home that sits on a peninsula of Marsh Harbour and both sides of his home overlooks the Sea of Abaco. Drinks, food, music and a great time were enjoyed by all. Most of us attending the party were carless, so some rode their bikes, some got rides with those with cars and some including myself hoofed it home or as brother Mike would call it the Nike express. Judy got a ride with a local who dropped her off at the marina.
On Friday Judy and I decided to take the boat over to Hopetown, a very small town, but with no end to its beauty and charm including a working lighthouse. We reserved a mooring ball in the Harbor and stayed 2 nights at anchor. It is only 4 miles away so the boat ride is very short. The town is very quaint. Even though it is a repeat visit it is always delightful. The top picture above shows the streets of Hopetown where golf carts are not even allowed (as well as horses). The next picture is of the Atlantic Ocean as seen from the Hopetown Lodge seaside bar. The rest of the pictures show the harbor, the Lighthouse and views from the Lighthouse.

After returning from Hopetown-Sunday was designated as football Sunday-but the cable was off so the first game between the Giants and Eagles was a satellite radio only event but apparently the Cableguy came through so we could watch the Steelers manhandle the Ravens. The next big event is the chili cook off-any male participant in the yacht club could enter-Just use your award winning recipe to fix a gallon of chili. The author was not one of the contestants. John from Our Time however is hopeful of a red ribbon but they will not return until late Monday so Judy procured all of his secret ingredients at the grocery so they would be ready when he returned. 200 people participated in the event and at the end of the night not much chili was left in any one's pot and the rum at the bar was well depleted. Unfortunately John's award winning recipe went red ribbon less tonight
