Our earliest departure date will be Saturday March 26th so we will have some time to help Mitch with his projects on the boat, have some fun time, and enjoy the view of the waterway from their home Mitch and Barb recently left the active day to day management of their True Value Hardware store in Englewood so they are living a lifestyle similar to ours sans boating but that is also about to change. After a leisurely start to the day we (Mitch & I) would hit the project list that Mitch had in his notepad
First project- finish installing the dinghy davits (the brackets that hold an inflatable boat to the transom). Mitch had done the heavy lifting by measuring and drilling, but he needed an extra hand to insert the bolts etc. Hank & Karen, their neighbors have a 12' dinghy with a 25 hp motor they have graciously allowed Mitch to borrow. This will provide great transportation for us when we get to the islands. All went well as you can see Hank & Mitch inspecting the installation
Several other projects successfully completed: Changing the water pump impellers on the Caterpillar 3116 engines. One impeller was missing lots of rubber so we had to tear the heat exchanger apart to find the missing pieces. That went well. Fixed the intercom from the lower helm to the flybridge.
One vexing problem that has bugged me since we brought the boat home. The tachometers either did not work or they would dance like windshield wipers. After much consternation and troubleshooting, I discovered they were hooked up to the alternator rather than the magnetic induction pickup on the flywheel so that problem was solved after hooking them up the proper way. The above perhaps way too technical and boring for some but of interest to others.
