Winter in Fort Myers 2010-11

Red Sox Spring Training in Fort Myers

Tom & Doris departing Legacy Harbou

Lauren & Terry departing

On a sunny warm day in January we took three other Decatur couples down the Caloosahatchee River to Rum Runners Restaurant for lunch

Our Boat Dock C neighbors Claudia & Michael.  Claudia is the Captain and Michael is the Chief Engineer

After spending the last three winters in the Bahamas, we decided to go someplace different this year.  On our Great Loop trip we had previously stopped at Legacy Harbour Marina in downtown Fort Myers Fl.  We liked it so well we decided to return.  There are many restaurants nearby as well as the theater.  Good choice for us.  Great boat neighbors on our C dock.  Lots of fun.  How did we get our boat there you may ask.  Well it was stored in Charleston SC for the summer.  In early November we departed Decatur and on Nov 9th we departed southward through the Intrarcoastal waterway for Ft Myers.  Beautiful weather accompanied our 675 mile trip all the way through to our arrival in Fort Myers on November 29th.  Lots of nights anchored out (as we say on the hook).  There is  a water route across the middle of Florida called the Okeechobee Waterway which crosses the massive Lake Okeechobee.  It was our first time to travel this route.  We spent three days crossing the waterway including a stop at Rolland Martins marina

It is now time to move on.  All of our  friends on the dock have departed, except our neighbors Claudia & Michael.  They have just purchased a new boat-more on that in the next chapter-so they will be here for a while.  So we are off to Cape Haze Florida where our good friends Mitch and Barb West reside on the waterway.  They have dock space available and we will get ready for our trip to the southern Bahamas
Departure day March 14th
