7 am was the scheduled departure to our planned anchorage some 50 miles away. Remembering this is an adventure, we generally have a plan A and B and sometimes C. Some of the guide books were less than enthusiastic about our planned anchorage but this was our A plan. The trip took us up the Indian River and ICW and through the Haulover Canal (pictured) to Mosquito Lagoon. The ICW heads north through this body of water (no mosquitoes here today) with 10-12' of water but very shallow if you stray outside of the channel. The scenery is certainly not the same. For awhile we see nothing but wilderness and then camping trailer parks and pretty soon some nice home and then very very very nice homes. Judy and I take turns piloting. Judy is becoming very adept at making her way through the maze of markers and keeping us in the center of the channel. Again the autopilot takes the labor out of the steering but you must constantly tweak the course. After passing through several of those idle zones and minimum wake zones we arrived at our anchorage. What a beautiful place. The locals know this too. The water is deep here (10') and many sand beaches nearby. Judy said it reminded her of Tahiti beach in the Abacos except for one thing-the gin clear water! As we sit here the wind has died-the water is dead calm-and we have had pork chops on the grill--a great end to a perfect day. Most of the locals have left the anchorage, so we are here by ourselves
