April 30 Cumberland Island GA Anchorage

Pictured is a 600 year old oak tree in St. Augustine. Today we are off to an anchorage at Cumberland Island just across the Florida line in Georgia. There is a small obstacle in our way and that is a drawbridge (McCormick) they are dismantling (they built a highrise bridge to replace the drawbridge). They will only let boat traffic through between noon and 1pm so we depart at 8am to journey the 30 miles. A whole gaggle of boats left about the same time, so it was quite a parade. Arrival time was 11:58 am and the bridge demolition crew had cleared out a little early so we motored right through. After that we still have 30 miles to our plan A anchorage. Xplorer turned left at the St. John's River to explore Jacksonville and the St. Johns. Prime Time stopped at Fernindina Fl. Great Expectations stopped at Amelia Island and we continued on to our anchorage with SanctuaryI. The water is deep (18' at high tide) in this anchorage. Not much wind, but a swift tidal current to be concerned with. More on that in the next update. After settling in about 4pm and having dinner, we went over to Sanctuary's boat to share some libations. He has traveled the route north before, but he has never been to the Bahamas so we traded some cruising information.
