June 3-4 Potomac River Smith Creek Anchorage

Silver Foxes approaching the dock as seen through the camera lens of Sue on Tom Kat. We are not docked tonight but anchored in Smith Creek which is some 10 miles up the Potomac River and not far from St. Mary's MD. 40 miles north of Deltaville we turn left to go up the Potomac River to Washington DC. Washington DC is approximately 110 miles up the Potomac so it will take us 3 days to get there. We are snuggled into a nice cove. Several Marinas and Yacht clubs nearby but it is very peaceful. Our Time is rafted alongside. In Portsmouth, John and Gail's friends, Dave & Pam joined them for the trip to DC. They flew to Portsmouth from Canada in their Cessna 170. Today was a beautiful trip on the Bay and up the River. However the weather does not look good for tomorrow. Thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and high winds are predicted. Judy fixed a great chicken casserole for all six of us and we entertained on our boat.

The morning thunderstorms did not materialize, but there were still warnings out and storms were predicted again for the evening. Both boats made the decision to stay put. The day was warm but storms were predicted to begin about 5pm. Later that evening the rain started and the sky looked very threatening. The commodore from the nearby yacht club yelled at us to turn on our VHF radio. Over the radio he suggested we come to their docks as there were tornado warnings out and 80 mph winds were predicted. We hurriedly took up his offer. It rained and stormed most of the night but the high winds did not raise their heads. However just north of us they did have winds of 80-100 mph and many people are without power. Luckily we escaped the brunt of the storm and should have headed to a dock earlier. We all slept well knowing we were securely fastened to the dock

Where are you docking in DC? Near the waterfront subway or Navy Yard? Great food at Phillips Seafood. Real close to red line.
