October 11-13 2008 Deltaville Va

The summer went by very quickly. After attending niece Emma Casper's wedding (Mike & Roxyann's daughter) on Friday evening in Indianapolis we flew to Richmond VA on Saturday. We were met by longtime friend and fellow hardware store owner, John Wake and his wife Sharon. Quickly we were whisked away to Deltaville Va where John's parents, John & Carolyn, have a home that overlooks a small bay and the Piankatank River just off of the Chesapeake Bay. After taking a short ride around the river and scouting some possible anchorages we were off to a party hosted by the YMCA to thank supporters of the Y. The highlight of the evening was the bushels of oysters that were cooked on the spot and poured on the table for all that wanted to partake and devour. What a feast! The oyster table, John & Carolyn's beautiful home, and John & Sharon are pictured above.

On Sunday a leisurely breakfast was enjoyed then it was off to the boatyard to visit Silver Foxes. All was in order but some of the work that was to be done on the boat by the time we returned this fall was still in progress. John Wake warned us we are now operating on Deltaville time and things normally get done when they get done. John & Sharon returned to Richmond Sunday evening but we were invited to stay at John's parents house until our boat was launched. What a delightful couple they are. Very active and delightful to be with. On Monday we borrowed John & Carolyn's other car, made the local grocer's day as we started provisioning the boat again. True to the Deltaville time schedule our boat was not ready to be launched as promised on Monday so it was back to the Wake house for another over night stay.
